Hi, I’m James. I’m based out of our Old Town Burleson location and offer both in-person and virtual sessions.
Over the past 14 years, I’ve worked with individuals navigating a wide range of life challenges through both education and counseling. I understand that getting started can feel uncertain, and I place a strong emphasis on helping you feel comfortable, supported, and at ease from the very beginning.
James brings over 18 years of experience supporting individuals through a wide range of life challenges, drawing from both education and counseling to help people navigate difficult seasons with greater clarity and steadiness.
Originally from Louisiana, he earned his undergraduate degree from Louisiana State University in 1994 before relocating to the Dallas–Fort Worth area in 1998. He spent a number of years working in education and educational administration, gaining valuable experience in supporting individuals and families from a systems perspective.
Over time, James felt called to make a different kind of impact—leading him back to graduate school, where he earned his Master of Counseling Education from University of North Texas in 2006 and completed his training as a Licensed Professional Counselor. Since then, his work has spanned inpatient, outpatient, and private practice settings, supporting clients across multiple levels of care.
While he has worked with individuals of all ages—from crisis stabilization to longer-term growth—James now focuses primarily on working with adults and couples, helping them navigate challenges and move toward a clearer sense of direction and purpose.
In his words:
I’ve spent many years working with people in different roles, but what has remained consistent is my desire to help others work through challenges and find a way forward.
I understand that even considering something different can feel overwhelming. My goal is to meet you where you are and create a space where you can feel more at ease as we begin that process together.
I consider it a privilege to walk alongside others in their counseling process. This perspective guides my commitment to treating each person with dignity, respect, and genuine care within a collaborative therapeutic relationship.
While we may be working through challenging aspects of your life, I also believe that a sense of humor can be an important part of emotional health and well-being. There may be moments where we can share a laugh along the way—because even in difficult seasons, lightness can have a place.
My work draws from a range of approaches, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, motivational enhancement, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). However, it is in the individual combination and application of those theories that I find usually provide the best results.
Simply put, often an eclectic approach lends itself to individualizing your therapy, creating the best opportunity in helping you meet your needs.
The goal is to create a process that feels supportive, practical, and responsive—helping you move forward in a way that makes sense for your life.
I look forward to the opportunity to get to know you - and maybe share a smile along the way.
