My journey

Joshua’s approach to counseling has been shaped by both professional training and real-life experience—grounded in a desire to help people move through challenges with clarity, direction, and support.

He was raised in a small town in Louisiana and earned his Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Counseling from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 2008. Over the past 14 years, he has developed an approach that considers the connection between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors—while also honoring the importance of spiritual, emotional, and physical well-being.

Early in his career, Joshua worked in customer service at Home Depot in the building materials department—an experience that shaped how he understands people and problem-solving. While some areas of the store were filled with customers working on creative projects, his department often served individuals dealing with something broken or in need of repair.

In his words:

That experience stuck with me. People would come in frustrated, overwhelmed, or unsure of what to do next—and my role was to meet them where they were, understand what was going on, and help them find a way forward.

That’s how I view counseling.

I’ll meet you where you are, take the time to understand what’s not working, and work with you to find a path forward that makes sense for your life. I’ll offer support, perspective, and practical tools along the way—but the process is something we move through together, step by step.

My approach

My approach to counseling is grounded, practical, and focused on helping you move forward with greater clarity.

I draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help you better understand how your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors interact—and how certain patterns may be keeping you stuck. Together, we work to shift those patterns in ways that feel manageable and meaningful.

I also have experience working with addiction and recovery, supporting individuals as they navigate habits, coping strategies, and the challenges that can come with long-term patterns. When appropriate, I incorporate EMDR to help process experiences that may feel unresolved or difficult to move past.

Along the way, I consider the whole person—emotional, physical, and spiritual—creating a process that is both supportive and forward-moving.
