PTSD
Substance Abuse
Veterans Issues

My journey

Elissa’s path into counseling has been shaped by a unique blend of clinical training, military service, and a deep commitment to supporting individuals through high-stress and transitional life experiences.

She earned her Master’s degree in Community Mental Health Counseling from University of Rochester. Following graduation, she joined the U.S. Army National Guard as a Behavioral Health Technician—an experience that ultimately brought her to Texas and expanded her work in the mental health field.

Through her military service, Elissa had the opportunity to provide behavioral health support to veterans, active-duty service members, and their families. She later earned her licensure in Texas while providing Equine-Assisted Counseling, working closely with veterans, first responders, and their families.

While her experience spans multiple areas of counseling, her passion lies in working with individuals navigating crisis, PTSD, and major life transitions—particularly those transitioning from military to civilian life. She works with clients ages 14 and older, bringing both experience and understanding to each stage of life.

In her words:

My path into counseling hasn’t been traditional, but each step has shaped how I support others today.

I value being able to work with individuals during some of the most challenging and transitional moments in their lives, helping them find stability, understanding, and a way forward.

My approach

I take a holistic approach to counseling, focusing on the many aspects that make up a person’s life—including emotional, cognitive, behavioral, social, spiritual, and even practical areas such as daily functioning and stability.

While my work is grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), I also integrate elements of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), existential and emotion-focused approaches, and creative modalities such as art when helpful. I believe that meaningful counseling involves looking at the whole person, not just one part of their experience.

One word I often come back to in counseling is challenge. I invite you to take a closer look at different areas of your life—your habits, thought patterns, and relationships—and begin asking whether they are helping you or holding you back. Together, we can explore what is serving you and what may be ready to shift.

Counseling can be a powerful space for growth, even when it brings up a range of emotions. My goal is to walk alongside you through that process with support, structure, and intention.
